Since I spent a month camping in my tent this last September/October, I want to make a couple of recommendations. My tent is manufactured by Hilleberg and is an all season, one person tent (Akto model). I also used this tent for all our camping trips with the wilderness college I attended, including camping in the snow in the Cascades of Washington State. It works well being ultra light weight and holds up to rain, wind, snow, etc.
On the rainy Washington, Olympic Peninsula I camped under a tree with a tarp. My model of tent has a built in rain fly with an inner sleeping compartment, but I liked the additional protection.
My warm down sleeping bag is manufactured by Marmot. It compresses so small to fit nicely in my backpack. It has always kept me warm, especially once I found out the fewer clothes you wear to bed, the warmer you are in a down sleeping bag. Down needs the air and room around your body to insulate and keep you warm.
